hey kevin,
how long ago was the triceps strain? has it been hurting for a long time.
My first thought is that you might have developed some scar tissue around the triceps tendon, around the elbow. If that's the case, then the scar tissue could be restricting the movement of the triceps tendon, making it feel either locked up and caught. If its just overuse, then you're experiencing the effects of triceps tendonitis, which produce some of the same effects.
if its a result of some scar tissue, rest probably won't do too much. You should do a lot more triceps stretches, 4-5x a day. In the gym i would still work on strengthening the triceps muscle but work only in a pain free range. If there is some tenderness around the triceps, then gentle massage should help.
If it is a result of triceps tendonitis, then you would need to also stretch the muscle throughout the day and do light strengthening. You need to limit how much pressure you put thru the elbow and triceps. In the gym, pushups, chest press, skull crushers, dips, etc, might cause some pain. Most important thing with tendonitis is that you don't irritate the area so if anything causes pain or discomfort, just avoid that activity.
over counter medication, heat, and ice can also help.

Thank you so much for the helpful response and advice. It has been a problem for awhile now. Not sure if it's tendinitis or built up scar tissue, but I did have radial head fracture by the elbow area.

Hey Ken,
Thanks for taking your time to answer these questions.
I had an arthoscopic surgery a month ago and my knee is still clicking... particularly during heel slides, as I begin to straighten my knee I hear the clicks. They don't hurt but they are uncomfortable. My physical therapist says it is normal to hear clicks after surgery but it has been awhile since the surgery and I am a bit skeptical at this point. If it is normal though, should I be continuing with heel slides and other strengthening exercises or avoid them?
Thanks again.
JinBae
